The YMAA Retreat Center in Humboldt County, CA is a non-profit organization established in 2005 by the founder of YMAA (Yang's Martial Arts Association), world renowned author and teacher, Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming, Ph.D.
The main purpose of the Center is to restore and preserve the traditional Chinese arts and culture to their original level of high quality and standards. Only a fraction of their complete depth has been transmitted to recent generations. If the traditional training arts are not passed down at the highest level possible, then they will continue to be downgraded until they are truly lost. The Center plans to plant the seed of the future ofr the development of the Chinese martial arts.
In addition, the Center aims to prove that good self-discipline can be developed through the traditional training methods. It also intends to raise awareness of martial morality into today's society.
The curriculum includes daily training in Long Fist and White Crane kung fu, Yang Style Taijiquan, Qigong, meditation, Chinese language, and more. In addition to these, students are expected to demonstrate their understand of the material by writing articles and writing, shooting, directing, and editing instructional DVDs as well as other media projects they are presented with.
